Undo Redo Part Two

As I said in my previous post, as part of a four day project I had to deconstruct an old jacket, shirt and tie and then create something new.

I really enjoyed taking apart the garments and I tried to make something which looks completely different from the original starting point.

I made something abit weird which although it does not look like the most wearable thing, it can be worn in a lot of different places. For example on the head, across the body and from the arm.

Anyway heres the pics and sorry in advance, as there not that great.

So I basically used the jacketlining and ripped it into shreds. Then I took the main part of the jacket and plaited it to create this roll which I then shaped and spray painted and wrote over. The white strands are from the shirt which I fluffed up using a brush which metal spokes. Then I combined all the pieces together to make this monstrosity!

Short One

Another short post I'm afraid, but I just thought I'd share another face painting pic and something which I did the other day which I had lying around on the floor.

And something unrelated but I like the hand image here.

Undo Redo

My last four day project was called, "Undo Redo". For this I had to take a suit, jacket and tie and deconstruct it, to remodel it in a different form. Whilst doing this we had to photograph all the different ways these items could be worn. I discovered there's literally hundreds of different ways in which you can do this, so these photos are by no means comprehensive but just something I thought I'd share and I'm not going to post all of them, as the post would get soo long and boring (if it isn't these things already).

So here we go bring on the pics.

Suits as trousers, I really like the knee pads here.

Bows on the feet out of the suit jacket.

I really like the shapes made here.

Suit jacket as a skirt.

This is one of my favourites: I really liked "drawing" with the shirt on the jacket.

The same kind of thing but done on the back of the jacket.

Here I tied all three things together and wrapped them around the body.

Wearing things in the wrong order.

This reminds me of a brownies sash.

Some kind of neck piece.

And what it looks like from the back.

This was half a skirt.

The layers of this jacket were also fascinating.

Rain on my window

Just a really mini post on the rain on my window. In Manchester it seems to rain all the time, which is not very pretty apart from in this case where I think it looks quite nice. Though it always does feel nice to sit inside in a warm cosy room when its raining and cold outside.

Cocktail sticks on your face

Yesterday I posted on body painting, so today I thought I'd continue with the theme and show you some images of facepainting. They are all done by my flat mate Anna and you can check her work out here or watch her complete the process on YouTube. I think they're really cool and it's really wierd seeing her face now without anything painted on to it.

Body painting

I wasn't actually going to put these up . Though I changed my mind, as I was talking to my flatmate  and she said it was fine (you'll see why in a min).

Anyway they are from a project I did last week, where I had to transfer a piece of art work I'd already done to a different site and at the same time change its scale. I choose my bed sheet painting from a few weeks back and painted my flatmate in my miniature bathroom. I think they turned out quite well and it makes a change from working in a sketchbook.

Hopefully there'll be more body and face painting soon.

Catch up

It feels like I haven't blogged in years, but it's actually only been two weeks (which is a long time in the blogging world). Anyway I'll start with telling you guys what I've been up too (if your still interested).

Well I've been back and forth between Manchester (uni) and London (home) trying to sort out what I'm doing next year and what course I'm doing, which is quite stressful and confusing. But whilst in London I went to the Tate and the Show Studio exhibitions (more on this later) and have been doing a lot of project work. The pace of my course is really picking up now and its so hard to keep up.

So yeah ramble, ramble, ramble, stress, stress, stress...

Umm, well on a better note (I hope) here are some pics I took whilst back at home for a project on where some of my clothes come from.

These photos match up with the ones in the post below. There also meant to be quite dull and sinister if your wondering, as going through my dads wardrobe was very depressing!

Sometimes the sun does come out

Well just a very tiny post and hopefully tomorrow I'll post something of consequence.

I've been experimenting with my camera again. This time it was black and white. I have also been back and forth between Manchester and London quite a lot recently, so hopefully more London posts will be up soon.

Cardboard Catwalk: The Show

As I mentioned previously, in groups we made outfits out of cardboard and last Thursday we had to wear them down the catwalk in front of the rest of the year and the tutors. Luckily we finished our two structures in time, as at some points in the week I felt it would never get done. Anyway here are some of the pics from the day of the show.

It was also really good fun splattering this thing to death and half way through parents came in to look at what we get up to during an open day and they saw us absolutely covered in paint and laughing our heads off.

After the show it was kind of liberating throwing a weeks worth of hard work on the floor and jumping on it.

 Also people mixed lights and cardboard.

This was me on stage (sorry the images aren't of great quality) but the experience was great. I was actually really scared before hand, as I never really done anything in front of people (I hide away when they ask for people to present or do a talk), but this was so much fun. I was constantly laughing and trying to swirl/ move whilst the structure was being pulled apart by the rest of my group.

As I said a constant state of laughter. So somehow I think this will be amusing to watch back on video tape.

Anyway I'll try and keep more up to date with blogging, so thanks for bearing with me.

Stefan Sagmeister

For all you people into graphics out there, this is probably a pointless post, so just skip away. Meanwhile for people like me who are clueless about the world of graphics join in the fun. So in the last few weeks, we've had a few talks about key designers etc and Stefan was one of them. Stefan is a New York based graphic designer who was born in 1962. His work is eye catching and so again I thought I'd just include a few pics.
